Famous lyricist Zheng Guojian (Teacher Zheng) has been in the Hong Kong music industry for 55 years and has written over 2,000 Cantonese song lyrics. To commend Teacher Zheng's contributions to the industry, an exhibition 《Zheng Guojian: A Lifetime of Lyrics Commemorating the 2026 Star-Studded Concert》 will be held at the Wan Chai Queen Elizabeth Stadium on May 15-17 (Fri-Sun). Up to 15 singers will participate in the performance, including: Albert, George Lam, Yip Chin-tong, Chow Kwok-fung, Lee Sze-jit, Lisa Lee, Vincie on May 15; Albert, Kenny Bee, Maria Cordero, Lai Sui-yin, Tsang Lo-tak, Lisa Lee, Vincie on May 16; and Albert, Alan Tam, Agnes Chan, Christina Lam, Loletta Chu, Lisa Lee on May 17. Today (April 14), Teacher Zheng, together with Albert, Maria Cordero, and Cheng Tse-cheng, attended a press conference to announce the details.

Albert expressed that when inviting singers to perform at 《Zheng Guojian: A Lifetime of Lyrics Commemorating the 2026 Star-Studded Concert》, everyone responded enthusiastically. 'Everyone wanted to show their support when they heard about Teacher Zheng's exhibition,' Albert said. At today's press conference, Maria represented the television industry, while he and Cheng Tse-cheng represented the radio industry, 'because we exclusively play Teacher Zheng's songs, and our combined air time adds up to 80 years.' Albert revealed that as Teacher Zheng has over 2,000 songs, selecting songs for the performance gave him a headache. 'I narrowed down 2,000 songs to 100, which was already difficult, but since you can't sing 100 songs in one concert, further cuts had to be made.' Albert described how Teacher Zheng's songs have influenced generations of fans, which Maria agreed with, 'My sons and grandsons still listen to Teacher Zheng's songs today.'

Cheng Tse-cheng frankly stated that although he is not performing in this exhibition, he still wanted to show his support for Teacher Zheng, 'because Teacher Zheng's contributions to the Hong Kong music industry are immense. I've gone through many ups and downs in life, and at every stage, Teacher Zheng's songs were there with me. So today, I want to show my support through action.' Albert described Teacher Zheng as a 'lyrical god', whose works always helped singers become popular, 'He always wrote hits for singers. For example, Alan Tam rarely sang TV drama theme songs, but 《Who Can Change》 written by Teacher Zheng became a hit. Deng Lijun had never sung in Cantonese before, but 《Walking Through Life》 became a hit as well. Teacher Zheng always wrote hits, so singers are very grateful to him.'

Although Maria has not performed any songs written by Teacher Zheng, she admitted that performing his works has helped her raise 6 children and 17 grandchildren, 'To be honest, Teacher Zheng's songs have helped me earn a lot of money. I performed his songs on worldwide stages, and even received more red packets. Everyone knows the songs by heart, so I absolutely cannot mess up the lyrics. I am very thankful to Teacher Zheng, even though he has never written a song for me to record. But I still earned money, like when I sang Winnie Choi's 《Rain of My Hometown》. As soon as I sang 'a letter from home...', the audience would be moved to tears. So I perform Teacher Zheng's songs every day. How could I raise my children without singing his songs?'

Teacher Zheng was so touched by the guests' words that he cried and had to wipe his tears away with a handkerchief. Teacher Zheng said that he has been writing lyrics for 55 years, and never expected to have such an influence and be able to give people so much strength, 'I may have written lyrics unintentionally, but a song can deeply touch a person at a certain time in their life. This kind of influence was unexpected. For example, once when I was having dim sum in Tsim Sha Tsui with my wife, a young man came up to me and called me 'Teacher Zheng'. He said he was my former primary school student and that he hadn't been doing well at work, so he had become a recluse for 2 years. But one night, he heard Chen Baqiang sing 《Fly Away》 on the radio, which encouraged him to buy a newspaper and look for a job the next day. He has been doing well since then and even reconnected with his parents. I don't even remember writing that song, and the lyrics are very simple, but it can be touching in a certain context. This is what moves me the most.'
