In the evening, Ms. Yelena receives a 'surprise' visit from four of her students. They bring flowers and champagne, and celebrate her birthday with song and dance. However, this seemingly innocent gathering slowly unravels into a game of teenage taboos. As the clock ticks, laughter turns into conspiracy. Ideals clash with reality within the confines of a cup, while absurdity and humanity drown in the liquor. This taboo farce blends philosophical ramblings with the chaos of human nature. Who is tugging at the tail of the future? Who is dozing off amidst a pile of cash?
This time, 'Hong Kong Putonghua Drama Club' simplifies things and puts dear Yelena on a pedestal of confrontation between utilitarianism and idealism, magnifying the darkness and selfishness hidden deep within hearts. This game of youth invites you to face its absurdity head-on, shatter the ice wall built around 'evil', and await the sprouting of seeds of kindness.
We don't intend to provide 'answers', but rather to raise 'questions'. If this production manages to give you a nudge, then we have accomplished our mission.
