[ET Net News Agency, 2 January 2026] Full-day turnover of Hong Kong stocks was
HK$140.86 billion, with short-sales accounting for HK$20.44 billion, or 14.51% of the
market's turnover. There were 775 short-selling stocks. BIDU-SW (09888) and HSCEI ETF
(02828) saw higher value of short sales, accounting for HK$1.79 billion and HK$1.41
billion, or 8.77% and 6.9% of the total short sales value respectively. The transactions
represented 37.52% and 14.74% of respective stock's turnover.
BABA-W (09988) and TENCENT (00700) registered HK$1.14 billion and HK$961.89 million of
short sales, accounting for 5.6% and 4.71% of the total short sales values respectively.
The transactions represented 15.85% and 9.61% of respective stock's turnover.
BIDU-SW closed up HK$12.3, or 9.35%, to HK$143.8. HSCEI ETF ended up HK$2.7, or 2.96%,
to HK$93.96. BABA-W rose HK$6.2, or 4.34% to HK$149. TENCENT jumped HK$24, or 4.01%, to
HK$623.
